A Message on the Fourth of July

July 4, 2012

My husband and I spent a pleasant evening with our daughter and son-in-law. We had a lovely dinner, and then we saw the new Spiderman movie. I must say that it was very exciting and well-done in terms of dramatic cinematography and acting. What a phenomenal cast!

However, all the action did give me a headache. Seeing everything so dramatically filmed in 3 D was at first a bit overwhelming, but I guess the mind and body adjust to it after a while.

The heat is so intense today that it feels utterly oppressive to go out of the air conditioning into the “unconditioned”, natural air. What poor air quality! Wow! It is like a blanket is placed over your face.

I also want to announce today that I no longer will be self-publishing. There is nothing wrong with it, but I am the type of person who cannot do a good job of marketing my books. I need an agent and a publishing company to set up book signings, tours and everything else necessary for a successful writing career. I cannot do all that myself.

Therefore, for the last few days, I’ve been writing queries to all the literary agents who are interested in promoting romances, since the novel I have just completed falls into the category of “sweet romance.” If need be, I intend to write to every literary agent and/or publlishing company in this country until one of them is interested in publishing my novel. I know I have talent, so I shall never give up.

The company that self-published my books did a remarkably good job, but I feel that at this time it is necessary for me to be published by a traditional company. It is quite a challenge, I know, but I feel that I am up to it.

Also, for all of you out there who loved watching Gone With the Wind or reading the fantastic novel upon which it was based, I heartily recommend the sequel to it entitled Scarlett,” by Alexandra Ripley. You can purchase it on for as little as $6.00 for a used paperback copy. I read the sequel twenty years ago when it first came out, but after seeing Gone With the Wind again for probably the tenth time (on TCM last night), I had the strong desire to read it once again. I hope you lovers of Margaret Mitchell’s classic novel will read the sequel and let me know what you think of it.

I guess that is about all there is for now. I hope you shared a wonderful day with your family and friends. Have a lovely day tomorrow, too, and enjoy the summer. It will be hot, but it will still be pleasant if you find ways to cope with the heat, inside and out.

I will be writing again soon.

As always, best wishes,

P.S. Enjoy the fireworks on television or outside when administered by professionals. Safety is the first priority. Leave the fireworks to the professionals. They know exactly what they’re doing. Most of us don’t.
